Welcome to Sweet Darren's! We are a non-profit bakery and ice cream establishment located in Bradley, IL, that expands opportunities for individuals with disabilities. When you support us, you're supporting them!
What We're About
Sweet Darren's was created in 2021 in order to provide job coaching, skill development, and social skills for individuals with disabilities.
We are located inside Northfield Square Mall in Bradley, IL where all the operations happen daily with local school job coaching programs, life skills classes, and other individuals in the community who are part of the Sweet Darren's Family.
Darren's Story
Darren Joseph Boothe was born May of 2009 and was perfect. Little did I know, this little boy would bless me with a world full of battles I would be unsure how to fight. My journey with Darren has been full of IEP meetings, special education classes, and countless therapy sessions. Although Darren has multiple disabilities, with one of the hardest being speech and language impairment, his school district has stated he is one of the happiest kids on earth. Seeing the world through Darren’s eyes is something I want the rest of the world to see. I want to teach the world that having a kid with special abilities comes with grief and gratitude. I used to fear what Darren’s life would be like. My grief was driven from his inabilities, his lack of speech, and lack of social and emotional skills. Grief was driving so many of my emotions, while gratitude was reminding me how grateful I was to have him. Darren has shown me that a little courage can go a long way. Through Sweet Darren’s I hope to meet and bless so many families who have been through a similar journey. I want to remind families of individuals with disabilities, there is a reason we all have each other.
The heart of Sweet Darren’s will focus on seeing the world through the eyes of people with disabilities. Focusing on the abilities of every individual and not the disability. Sweet Darren’s will be a place where individuals can come for job coaching and develop work ethics through a work program as part of the school systems, preparing individuals with disabilities for a rewarding career path. Sweet Darren’s goal is to employ several special needs adults and employ a support staff to make this dream possible. Along with the employment of our incredible work staff we will provide the best tasting bakery items, ice cream, and many other delightful treats. The reason being is the secret ingredient “love”. We want to remind the world that there will always be a reason why you meet people, whether you need them to change your life or you are the one that will change theirs.
